Bollywood "Independence day" tweets

As Bollywood personalities conveyed their greeting on Independence Day and expressed their sense of pride in being Indians, the issue of corruption was clearly on the minds of many of them. "However angry and disappointed I may be with today's politics, I-Day still makes me feel proud to
be an Indian," filmmaker Pritish Nandy said on twitter.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher said: "My country gives me enough reasons to be a proud Indian even when I am disheartened at times. I love INDIA. Happy Independence Day."

Ameesha Patel getting racy

The recent news coming is that Ramesh Taurani produced Abbas- Mustan directed film Race which released in 2008 created quite a stir. Well, now the producer-director team is back again with the sequel to the film, titled Race 2. Though the cast of the film comprising of Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Sonakshi Sinha and Chitrangda is known, the latest addition to this multi-starrer is Ameesha Patel.

Confirming this news, Ramesh Taurani says, "Yes its true, Ameesha will be part of Race 2, but this time expect the film to be sexier, sleeker and smarter than the first."

Talking about Ameesha's role, he adds, "In Race 2, Ameesha will be playing the lead opposite Anil Kapoor. Though I cannot reveal much more about her role, there will be a bikini scene in the film to go with the sexy tag."

The film is expected to go on floor by October 5 with a tentative release date in August next year. The music of the film will be composed by Pritam.

Aarakshan in a new controversy

It seems like the path of the movie "Aarakshan" is facing more obstacles as the film is approaching its release day. Earlier this week the news of the spat between the financer and producer was in limelight as the Producer Sajid Nadiadwala's cheque worth 3.5 crores bounced. Now the latest hurdle in their way is "Mayawati" and "SC/ST community".


The Chairman of the SC/ST commission PL Punia got a pre-screening of Prakash Jha’s "Aarakshan" and sought to play super censor, saying there were objectionable dialogues. But the Censor Board chief Leela Samson was categorical and the movie will be released without any further cuts. The film releases this Friday.



Even as politicians battle to decide the content of the film, the Central board of film certification emboldened by the Bombay High Court's green signal on Tuesday made it clear that they call the shots.
"We have asked Central Board of film certification that keeping in view our observations, you must order for a comprehensive revision of the film," said Punia.

"We have approved, we can’t hold back the release of the film," said Leela Samson.

The strongest words for the political super censors came from the lead actor in the film Amitabh Bachchan and the director.

"I do believe this is happening because some people want to exploit the situation without even know or understanding what the film is about," said Amitabh Bachchan.

Prakash Jha said, "There are people saying I have made a film for reservation and some are saying it is anti-reservation. So the allegations will continue."

From its mahurat shot, 'Aarakshan' ramains cast in controversy from alleged anti-dalit dialogues and attacking commercialisation the film got a political twist just before the release. The build up has been good but for the final verdict however it is the box office that will decide this Friday.

Shah Rukh Khan is now all set to make the term 'Putting yourself into someone else's shoes' come true, in true sense of the word. Here's the deal - SRK's Red Chillies Idiot Box and UTV Stars (UTV's new channel) have come together with a show called 'Live My Life'.


The concept of the show is that a film actor will choose his or her craziest fan, who will be picked up from anywhere like schools, colleges or even social networking sites. This will be followed by the said celebrity star chalking out his plans for the day, including driving the fan in his/ her own car, working out at their gym, haircuts, photoshoots ... and hold your breath, even resting in the star's house! In short, the fan will be nothing short of the celebrity's shadow for a stipulated day.

News has it that the stars with whom the channels are in talks with include the likes of John Abraham, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and others, but the only names that are confirmed are Sonakshi Sinha, Rani Mukerji and Anushka Sharma. Giselle Monteiro is back again

Giselle who is a brazilian model are among those foreign beaties who are desperate to make her name in Bollywood.

Actor Sanjay Mishra, who is making his debut as director with rustic Hindi feature film PRANAM-WALEKUM, has taken Giselle Monteiro in lead. She is playing the character of a nautanki wali in it. 'She fits the character to the T. Although the girl in my film is desi but she has a mix of glamour and innocence, something that Giselli has in plenty. She is best suited to this character,' comments Sanjay Mishra.

He has stopped accepting new acting assignments because his current focus is direction of a film titled PRANAM-WALEKUM. Produced by Sandiip Kapur, other star cast of the film is Vijay Raaz, Manu Rishi, Shilpa Shukla, Manoj Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, Asrani and others. Irrfan Khan and Rajat Kapur are in guest appearance.

Why such a controversial title? 'Because it is an unusual story woven around an usual subject. Out of box it sometimes stings, but on the whole the story will regale viewers with ironies and funny anecdotes of everyday life,' comments Sandiip.

As the title suggests, PRANAM-WALEKUM, with its tongue in cheek humor, takes a funny and satirical poke at religious tolerance and intolerance in India. PRANAM WALEKUM, produced under the banner of Promodome Films, is co-produced by Amit Chauhan while music is given by Sachin Gupta & Amit Mishra.

Sonakshi's item number

Makers of Joker won't have to look anymore for Katrina Kaif or other A-league actresses for performing an item number in Joker. They have found one pretty much in-house, what with Sonakshi Sinha herself stepping in for a slot that was available for grabs. This well-thought of decision was taken last week by Shirish Kunder and Farah Khan who felt that there was no harm in getting their own leading lady gyrate to the tune of this 'desi' number that is expected to spice up the narrative of this Akshay Kumar starrer.

"This item number was recorded many months back but the hunt was on for the item girl. Though there was no one in particular who was sent any feelers since there are still a few more days to go before the song goes on floors, Shirish started looking at Sonakshi as a big option that was available right in front of them", says a source from the film.

For the uninitiated, a few months back there were also talks of Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan being approached for the song. Since Katrina owes her biggest chartbuster ever, 'Sheila Ki Jawaani' (Tees Maar Khan) to Farah and Salman too has worked with Shirish in Jaan-E-Mann (and also done an item number 'Wallah Wallah' in Tees Maar Khan), everyone felt that this would be a cakewalk. However, once Katrina denied doing any such song, the hunt intensified to look for another big name.

"Yeah, everyone felt that Sonakshi herself could be groomed for this item number", the source continues, "She has anyways done quite well in another song from the film, 'Dance Kar Le English Mein', where she has gyrated to a 'desi' tune and impressed everyone with her moves. Shirish and Farah felt that it would be good to continue the momentum by making their leading lady do the quintessential item number as well."

On contacted, Shirish did confirm that Sonakshi was doing the item number. However he denied that this was an after thought and instead stated that options were always open for the coveted slot. "No one else had been approached and in any case this song was always supposed to be shot in our later schedules. Sonakshi is the best fit for the song and we would be beginning the shoot soon", says Shirish.

There are some who are surprised though. After all, it wasn't too long ago when he had supposedly asked Sonakshi to reduce weight for her further scenes in the film. One wonders what led to a change in mind.

"What change of mind", Shirish gets a tad irritated here, "We took Sonakshi in the film for what she is. She looks absolutely fine and there is no change needed in her. Whatever you heard are just rumours."

When told that this decision seemed impromptu and just a measure to soothe Ms. Sinha who is pretty peeved with the suggestions, Shirish responded stating, "That's rubbish. People should stop imagining."

Word spreads fast and with social networking platforms 'news in a second' is what you are looking at. Akshay Kumar's tweet on Friday in support of a National Hockey Day in India is soon turning into a national rage.

Akshay Kumar, busy with his soon-to-be-released Indo-Canadian production, BREAKAWAY, tweeted on 5 August, 2011 on his official social networking page, 'Canada has given me something very interesting to think about. If Canadians can celebrate Hockey Day, why can't we Indians support our own national sport & initiate something similar? What are your views?' This tweet has spread around like wildfire and is soon turning into national news that has been picked up by major and smaller news portals.

The tweet brought to attention again the very pertinent issue of our national sport of hockey fading away completely and although we do celebrate 29th August as National Sports Day, we do not yet have a day marked specially for hockey. Learning about a National Hockey Day in Canada that is celebrated annually, Akshay's tweet displayed his concern for the national sport of our nation.

His production, BREAKAWAY too focuses on a young, hockey playing Indian's dream to make it big as an ice hockey player who has to battle his family's traditional expectations. His pushing for a 'hockey day' in India and the fact that his production is a culture-sports drama is a testament to Akshay's dedication for the growth of every sport in the nation especially hockey.
